Sushi Sushi is often thought of as raw fish on a piece of rice, but its true origin is in the rice. Sushi is all about the rice! Sushi rice is slightly sweetened with a prepared vinegar and then rolled with vegetables, fish and wrapped in nori, (seaweed). There are several different styles in which sushi is served and presented; Nigiri - hand shaped & usually topped with fish, Maki - rolled sushi, Futo - thick style and Futomaki - thickly rolled.
Sushi is traditionally served with Wasabi, (reminiscent of horseradish), for mixing and dipping in soy sauce. Gari, (pickled ginger) is usually pink in color and served with sushi to cleanse the palate after eating each dish.
Kappa Maki Freshly sliced, trimmed cucumber with a sprinkling of sesame seeds is rolled in nori and slightly sweetened sushi rice. The maki is delicately cut into bite sized pieces and served with Wasabi and pickled ginger.
California Roll A combination of Kamoboko crab, avocado slices, sesame seeds and thinly sliced cucumber are carefully rolled in nori and slightly sweetened sushi rice. The maki is delicately cut into six bite sized pieces and served with Wasabi and pickled ginger.
Inside/Out California Roll The same fresh ingredients are used in this style of roll except that it's rolled in reverse, with the rice rolled on the outside of the nori and roll.
